Junior School news

It’s great to be back!

Well done Junior School students for the marvellous attitude and resilience you have shown. We have been impressed by your contributions and attitude over the past nine weeks of online learning.

It was lovely to see everyone return to school last Wednesday. Despite many students forgetting their combination code, there were a lot of smiling faces and excitement to see their friends and teachers. There was a festive balloon arch, a rainbow tinsel backdrop and a welcome sign that many of them had photos in front of.  We are delighted to see our students settling back into their daily school routine and reconnecting with their peers.

We wish all the Junior School families a happy holidays; stay safe and well, and we look forward to welcoming you back in Term 3!

Remote learning experience

Learning remotely was a completely new experience and a new way of learning. Amongst the challenges and struggles, there are many positive things that happened during this time.

There’s a lot you miss out on whilst learning at home: friends, teachers, sports, other activities and even the ‘loud and crazy lunchtimes’. Many students have discovered that they enjoy getting to work at their own pace as well as getting to sleep in in the morning!

Remote learning was a struggle at first. From trying to understand assignments and getting easily distracted to not having a reliable internet. Working online was at times stressful: not being able to ask the teacher questions directly and worrying if you hadn’t completed a task.

Despite the many challenges, there are many great things that came out of the time of being at home. Families got to spend more time together, and many people found new hobbies and tried new things.

During classes, we went on calls with our friends to help each other out and, as we got used to this routine, online learning became fun! Going on Facetime together helped us a lot since we worked together and understood things better. It was also very comfortable learning at home and it saved a lot of time on the road. Although staring at a screen for a long time isn’t healthy, the less travelling also reduced the amount of pollutants to our environment.

Thank you to all the teachers who have supported us during this new learning experience. These past few weeks have been hard, but you have been there to help us out; sending all the extra emails, setting lesson plans and also recording instructional videos. We are grateful for your efforts and all the hard work put in.
