INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Recently FCC International Women’s Day Student and Advocates Committee organised a fantastic week of activities to celebrate International Women’s Day March 8th.

Our committee learnt about the IWD theme 2018 #PressforProgress. During our meetings to develop ideas and actions in order to support a strong call to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.

We made over 300 purple, green and white awareness ribbon pins which were distributed to students and staff on March 8th.

We Invited Maribyrnong City Youth Services, Phoenix Youth Hub Officers to support our students’ understanding of Youth and Gender Equity issues and students made over a hundred badges.

Our ‘Girls Only in the Gym’ lunchtime activity was a great success and we thank our House Captains, staff and students who participated on the day.

We designed and made many informative IWD posters highlighting many local and global women’s achievements and these were displayed throughout the school.

Girls had the opportunity to listen to guest speaker Mehak Sheik from the Centre of Multicultural Youth and enjoy IWD  logo embellished cupcakes. Students listened to singer Kelly Auty whose performance showcased inspiring lyrics and music from past and present women artists.

AFLW Maddy Keryk (Carlton team) spoke to both boys and girls about her journey, mentors and future goals as an elite sportswoman.

Thanks to our IWD student presenters, singers and poets who communicated our values and the IWD  theme so well.

Many thanks to the boys and girls and all the staff who supported our activities and we value the feedback from you all to make next years event even bigger and better!
