LIBRARY

COME HERE AND SAY IT

On Friday 27 April, our library was treated to multiple spoken word and sung performances from four of our very talented, thoughtful, insightful and amusing students. The event was ably hosted by Milo Marich and we witnessed performances from:

  • Maxine Palmerson - Year 12
  • Mia Brittain - Year 12
  • Kyri Liapis - Year 8
  • Nick Ponomarev - Year 8

LEADING BY EXAMPLE

We all know that children learn much by the example set by the adults around them. That is why at FCC Library we always try to find ethical and responsible ways to dispose of our resources that are surplus to requirements, whether it be donating to charity, recycling or re-using items, as we did with our circulation desk made from books and our shelf dividers made from old video cases. We believe we have a responsibility to make ethical decisions about how we operate, because by doing so, we teach our children to do the same.

After a big renovation and clean-up of our Audio Visual office, we sent a lot of our e-waste to local recycling group Green Collect. This organisation not only finds innovative ways to upcycle, sell and recycle waste but they also run an education program for local kids about responsible waste management. You can even visit their retail stores in Braybrook and Yarraville to get some bargain clothing, office supplies and retro goodies! Find out more about Green Collect at: www.greencollect.org

Also earlier in the term, our library donated some of our old textbooks and other deleted books to a charity called The Partnership of Australia and South Sudan Project. They were extremely grateful to receive these donations which will help educate a generation of children in South Sudan. The secretary of the organisation sent us a letter of thanks and you can read this below.

2018 INKY AWARDS LONGLIST

The Inky Awards, facilitated by the Centre for Youth Literature, annually recognise high-quality young adult literature by allowing teens to judge the novels they love. There are two awards: the Gold Inky Award for an Australian book, and the Silver Inky Award for an international book. Both the longlist and

shortlist are chosen entirely by a panel of young adult judges, and the winner from each category is voted for online by the teen readers of InsideaDog.com.au. The Awards are named after Inky – the wonder-dog mascot for the online teen reading platform Inside a Dog. Further information on the Awards, including current and previous winners, can be found online at www.insideadog.com.au.
