On the first of March, the Year 12 EAL students went on an excursion to see Cate Kennedy, the author of short story collection “Like a House on Fire” talk about her stories and writing process.
Most of the session was a Q & A where students were able to ask and receive information about the collection which only the author could provide. Cate Kennedy was able to clearly discuss how she approaches writing and some of her inspiration for creating short stories. She examined her own work while encouraging and providing tangible techniques for students to develop their own creative writing. We would like to thank Bianca Li-rosi and Sunshine Secondary College for hosting us and making this event possible.

Student reflections:
"What an exhausting excursion I have ever been on yesterday. It was really good to listen to Cate Kennedy talking about her book in Sunshine Secondary College. Thanks for this good excursion." Ioannis Hussein
"We had a great time, and it was a wonderful experience! Meeting Cate Kennedy, and learning lots of new things! Was wonderful." - Rimi Mostapha
"I really enjoyed listening to her talking about the progress she made to write this book. When we were reading the book in the class, I found some themes that link to me and I had my own understanding of this book, but it was hard to imagine and really understand what the author wanted to tell us throughout the stories. However, after I went to this excursion, I feel like that I'm more connected to the author so it's easier for me to understand the stories and the ideas/meaning of those metaphors which she used a lot in this book."
