SPORTS REPORT
The short first term was very busy for sport at Footscray City College. We had our swimming carnival at St Albans Leisure centre where competitors were selected to represent our school at division level. Our ability was obvious when we won the majority of relays at division level, having 20 swimmers progress to WMR in Geelong on the last day of Term 1. This was really tough competition with plenty of State & National swimmers competing. Our best performers were Lloyd Deunk (Year 7) 3rd in 50m Breastroke and our Year 7 Boys Freestyle Relay team of Lloyd, Marlowe Wilton, Zane Barfoort and Zac Caldwell also finished 3rd.
Congratulations also to our Summer sport team winners who progressed to Western Metropolitan Region Finals later in the year:
- Year 7 boys Baseball
- Year 8 boys Baseball
- Intermediate boys Baseball
- Senior boys Baseball
- Year 8 girls Softball
- Year 8 boys Tennis
- Intermediate boys Cricket
Our athletics carnival took place on the second Thursday of this term where students from Year 7 - 9 competed to represent our school in Track & Field events and also in novelty events (including a fashion parade) to earn points for the tight houses competition. It was a fun day highlighted by some outstanding athletic performances as well as some engaging novelty events.
A big thank you must go out to all students and staff that helped make the carnival at Aberfeldie such a success. Great participation rates and friendly, co-operative students made it very easy for the organisers.
Congratulations to Hoadley (Yellow) House for their come from behind overall win. It was a great effort after coming last in the swimming sports earlier this year. Final House results were: 1st Hoadley (Yellow) 736 pts, 2nd Cooper (Green) 710, 3rd Alberti (Red) 690 and 4th Kirner (Blue) 501.
Congratulations also to the individual trophy winners who will be presented at upcoming Year level assemblies. They were: Year 7 Girls: 1. Edie Warhurst (Hoadley), 2. Layla Dawkins (Cooper), Boys: 1. Henry Lovell (Hoadley), 2. Charlie Beattie (Hoadley), Year 8 Girls: 1. Jade Lewicki (Cooper), 2. Ines Spedding-Siu(Kirner), Boys: 1. Joe Perry (Kirner), 2. Arm Yawang (Cooper), Year 9 Girls: 1.
