NATIONAL DAY AGAINST BULLYING AND VIOLENCE

On Tuesday 20 March, FCC celebrated our whole efforts as a school and personally in rejecting bullying. The day was a huge success with many students and staff contributing in fabulous ways.

The day started with teachers showing several anti-bullying clips to students and discussing these. The clips were varied but touched on the effects of bullying by highlighting the statistics attached to bullying. Some of these included an increase in depression, self-harm, isolation, and suicide.

Staff and students contributed to a huge wall display in the foyer. Positive messages or words were written on coloured cut out hands and placed around a message. The message, 'Use The Power You Hold For Care and Kindness'  relates to the themes of power abuse which was explored in some of the junior health classes this term.

At lunch we were spoilt with performances by Year 12 bands and Year 12 singer-songwriter Maxine PalmersonMaxine gave a repeat performance of an original song she wrote for International Women's Day. Four Year 7 students bravely treated us to the recital of an original poem they had written for the event. Coloured string was handed out to hundreds of students and staff to tie around their wrists to show that bullying will not be tolerated.

To top this day off, Chole Hayden/Princess Aspien, gave a presentation to the Year 7 and 8 students at assembly. Chloe shared some of her experiences of living with Autism and the importance of accepting our personal differences and those of others. We were so lucky that she could contribute to the important themes of our event and day.

BREAKFAST CLUB STARTING IN TERM 2

SU Victoria have gathered some volunteers to run a Breakfast Club at FCC early next term. This club will be open one morning per week to all students and staff before classes begin. It is hoped that the club will provide much more than food by contributing to more positive social interactions too.

As the club takes shape we will keep the school community posted but we need your help to keep costs to a minimum. If any families have any electric fry pans that they are no longer using, and they are clean and in great condition, we would be be grateful if you would consider donating them to our club. Naturally they will need to be tagged and tested once they are received here at school. If you feel you can help please email me at lavelle.meaghan.l@edumail.vic.gov.au
