LARGE VOCAL ENSEMBLE

On Thursday 15 March some students involved in the Large Vocal Ensemble made their way to Arcare, Maidstone (aged care facility) to perform a short program of music for the residents. They performed Help! By the Beatles, Double Trouble by John Williams (from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets) and The Lion King Medley, with accompaniment by one of our woodwind teacher’s, Rodney Hales. Students also learnt on the spot and performed an Israeli jibberish round called Toembai. Through this exercise we were able to show the residents how the Vocal Ensemble learns songs and how quickly a vocal ensemble can make something sound both interesting and beautiful.

The residents enjoyed sharing their space with us and were very grateful for our visit. A simple afternoon tea of sausage rolls, party pies and fruit was served after the performance. We have hopes to visit again and Arcare is very keen to have us return.

The Large Vocal Ensemble comprises all students who take singing lessons at FCC, and a few who just join us for Ensemble rehearsals on Thursdays at lunchtime. The Large Vocal Ensemble is open to all students. There are also some spots left for students who wish to take up singing lessons in years 8-10, any year 7’s wishing to take up singing lessons will join a waiting list.

The Large Vocal Ensemble performs at least four times a year, two Vocal soirées and the mid and end of year music concerts.
