Cadet Report

CAPT Sarah Byron

The newly formed Cadet Drum Corp, under the tutelage of CPL Byron and CPL Keable, spent their Saturday in late May attending a Drum workshop with Community units from Hamilton and Warrnambool. Due to instructor unavailability, our original plans of travelling to Ballarat to meet an instructor changed to the event being held in Hamilton and a new instructor was sourced to run the program.

CPL’s Byron and Keable had an early start and worked with Dean Hall from Drumming Mad via zoom. The CPL’s refreshed and upgraded their skills ready to pass their knowledge on to the other cadets. With many nervous faces, it didn’t take long for the cadets from the 3 units to quickly build a rapport. The CPL’s worked with the group teaching them the basics of drumming from holding sticks through to basic patterns.

A huge thank you to Cpl Byron and Keable for all their hard work in ensuring that all cadets were included and learnt many new skills. We are looking forward to hearing the drum corp out on Parade days.

Thank you to those Cadets that represented the unit at SGT Josh Elmes funeral. You have represented the unit very well. SGT Elmes will be missed within the unit.

This Saturday, 12 eager cadets will be heading to Courses camp at either Puckapunyal, Bendigo or Tallarook to complete the Junior promotions course or the specialist course – Public Affairs; Robotics; Survival. We wish them all the best for these courses. I would also like to thank LT Claire Toffolon as she heads to Puckapunyl to assist with the Junior Leaders Course.
