Wellbeing Hub

Kate Couchman

We have had a VERY busy couple of weeks in the Wellbeing Hub.

Wellbeing Days

Our Year 9 and 10 students participated in two very successful wellbeing days on the 8th and 9th of June. We thank all of the presenters during the program:

  • Mardi Gill- Pilates
  • Tash Donaldson – Pure Envy (skin care and facials)
  • Jenaye Kerr -WDHS- FHCC, Women’s Health Nurse
  • Rachel Boak – Consuming Kind (Dietician)

The students completed feedback forms and the overwhelming majority would like a wellbeing day every term!! Whilst I’m not sure thi is possible, it was great to see them having fun, being vulnerable, discussing emotions and generally developing strategies for safeguarding their wellbeing.

The Man Cave

Students participated in this day long program and reported amazing results and that the program exceeded their expectations. The facilitators developed an instant rapport and strong level of trust with our students and reported fantastic engagement from all. They were impressed with how friendly and willing our students were to get involved in the day. Families have been emailed ways to support their young people at home to continue the work from the Man Cave. More information about this program, aimed at facilitating healthy masculinity in young men can be found at:

Standing Tall in Hamilton: School Based Mentoring

We have grown to four students in our Standing Tall group. We thank our fantastic mentors Adrian, Shae, Denise and James for their dedication to the program and turning up for fun and surprise activities each week. The Standing Tall group really enjoy your company each Wednesday at lunchtime. We have been involved in cooking, playing card games, indoor bowling, working on puzzles and playing bingo. This week we have a Masterchef mystery cooking task to finish the term.

Minus 18 Staff Training

Our teaching and non-teaching staff were given the opportunity to participate in a professional learning webinar through Minus 18, a charity that works to improve the lives of LGBTQIA+ youth. We completed Module One: Creating LGBTQIA+ Inclusive Classrooms and learnt more about diversity and inclusion. This strengthens our commitment to the Child Safe Standards and reflects the efforts of staff in caring for students at Monivae. We will look at a second module later in the year to continue to enhance our knowledge.

Accessing grief and loss and wellbeing support over the holidays

We have been very fortunate to receive additional support for our staff and students through a range of external services. We especially thank Wellways, who have provided individual and group grief and loss counselling support to our students, as have MIND providing us with a mental health practitioner. This has been providing students with the time and space required to process their emotions and responses in a safe and caring environment. We also thank Tim O’Farrell and Danielle from the Catholic Education Office for offering invaluable support to our school.

If your young person requires wellbeing support over the school holiday break, we encourage you to contact the services below, additionally I have attached a brochure for the Mental Health and Wellbeing Hub through Wellways in Hamilton.

Our Wellbeing Hub team will be taking a very well deserved break over the holidays, and will not be in a position to respond to phone calls or emails, so please access these services above if required.

Have a safe and happy holiday break, stay warm!
