Point Walter Recreation Camp Noongar Six       Season Garden

Beatriz Clark

Mr Crouch and our former Year 6 students were recognised this week at the formal opening of the Noongar 6 season garden beds that were planted in September 2020 at the Point Walter Recreation and Conference Centre. A special smoking ceremony by Nanna Marie Taylor and Robyn Collard marked the official opening of these flourishing garden beds.

It was almost three years ago that our student leaders were invited to the Point Walter Recreation Centre to help establish six garden beds which were specially curated based on each of the Noongar seasons. Medicinal and edible plants were planted in each area to correspond with the seasons. Burrendah students were selected due to the relationship that Mr Crouch, Mrs Crouch, and Year 6 teachers had built with camp management and staff over many years of running our Year 6 school camps at this venue..

Camp Manager, Mr Craig Waite credited Mr Crouch for his idea to get our students involved in sustainable planting as a way of contributing to this beautiful camping ground.
