RICE HOUSE DAY

Rice House Day

In 2023, each house will have a day of celebration to promote house spirit and to build the profile of their four namesakes – Edmund Rice, Catherine McAuley, Mary Glowrey, and Mary MacKillop.

Rice was the first house to celebrate on Monday 8 May. In the morning, all Rice House students and many staff gathered for an extended homeroom and liturgy.

During the liturgy, House Captains Rachael Darwin and Micah Robb, along with Prefects Sophie Millar, Ava Rooney and Tom Billing, took the audience on a journey through the extraordinary life of Edmund Rice, which afforded them a glimpse into the crippling poverty endured by so many Catholics in 18th and 19th century Ireland. Rice House students learned about the extraordinary work that Edmund and his followers undertook to address this injustice, and how it reflects the Trinity College motto -'Virtus Nobilitat'.

Thank you to those students who got into the spirt of the day by wearing a touch of red with their PE uniform. We hope that on future house days, more students will choose to take part in the activities provided by House Spirt Leaders and College student leaders during break time.
