Principal's Update

Paul Clohesy

Dear Families,

I would like to thank all our parents, carers and students who attended the student learning conversations last week. It was fantastic to be able to meet with our parents and carers face to face again and many of those who attended commented that it was great for them to be able to meet their children’s teachers in person. While it was nice to be able to invite our parents and carers back into the school, we do understand that work and other commitments do prevent some people from attending. With this in mind I want to remind all our families that our teaching staff are available to you at any time to discuss your child’s academic progress either by phone or will arrange for a time that suits to meet face to face.

We held our first House celebration day last week. On Friday 5 May it was the Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice founder of the Christian Brothers who began Trinity College back in 1967. Rice House is named after Edmund Rice and we celebrated this event with Rice House Day on Monday 8 May. All students who are in Rice House began the day with a liturgy in the Jubilee Centre that was led by our Year 12 student leaders. Activities were available to the students during break time and all Rice House students were provided with a special treat from the canteen. The purpose of our House celebration days is to further educate our students on the remarkable lives our House namesakes and the service they provided to others. Our House namesakes play an important role in the Catholic Identity of our school.

Over the last fortnight we also had a presentation from the Colac Police SOCIT (Sexual Offences Crime Investigation Team) unit. The presentation focused on the laws around consent and provided age appropriate, worthwhile and necessary information to our students.

The College also held a Mother’s Day morning tea for Year 7 mums and significant females. Our music students provided entertainment and our psychologist Paige provided some helpful tips to support personal and student wellbeing. Our kitchen staff assisted with the catering and our Vocational Major students did a fabulous job providing coffee.

Next week we look forward to celebrating Catholic Education Week, a week where we can reflect on the important role Catholic Schools play in educating young people to not only be great learners but also great people.
