Careers Corner

There continues to be many opportunities for our students to attend off-campus careers events, where they can engage with representatives from a wide range of tertiary education providers, employers and industry organisations. These experiences enable students to explore future career pathways, ask questions about courses and occupations they are interested in, and access the most current information to support informed decision-making. Just as importantly, students are often introduced to career and study options they may not have previously considered, broadening their understanding of the many pathways available after secondary school.

One of our recent excursions was the Aspiring to Lead event, hosted by ADF Careers. This inspiring event celebrated the leadership, resilience and achievements of women serving in the Australian Defence Force. Students heard firsthand from current female military leaders and participated in panel discussions exploring the future of leadership and the important role young women can play in shaping it. The event provided valuable insights into leadership, service and the diverse career opportunities available within the ADF.

Students also attended the Melbourne Careers Expo at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre on Friday, 17 July. The expo brought together universities, TAFEs, employers, apprenticeship and traineeship providers, and industry organisations from across Australia. Students had the opportunity to explore a wide range of post-school pathways, speak directly with exhibitors, and gather valuable information to help them make informed decisions about their future education, training and career options.

It is always encouraging to receive positive feedback from students who attend these events. Many comment that the experiences have increased their confidence in planning for the future, introduced them to new opportunities, and helped clarify their career aspirations. We look forward to continuing to provide our students with these valuable opportunities to explore the many pathways available beyond school.
