Pathways 7-9: Badano Program

As our Year 9 students begin selecting subjects for Year 10, the Badano Program continues to play an important role in supporting their personal growth, career aspirations, and future pathway planning.

Through this pastoral care program, students are encouraged to better understand their interests, strengths, values, and goals while developing the confidence to make informed decisions about their future. A key component of the program is each student's Career Action Plan, which is reviewed throughout secondary school to help guide learning and career decisions. Students also explore the RIASEC Career Interest Model, introducing six broad interest areas that help them identify careers aligned with their interests and abilities.

When selecting subjects, students are encouraged to choose courses they enjoy and are motivated to study, while also considering subjects that may support future pathways. Although Year 10 subject choices can influence senior secondary options, they do not determine a student's lifelong career. Instead, thoughtful subject selection helps keep a wide range of opportunities open.

As part of the Badano Program, students are introduced to post-school pathways, including university, TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeships, and vocational education. Understanding these options helps students see the connection between their subject choices and future study or employment, while recognising that there are many different routes to success.

Parents and carers are encouraged to be active partners in the subject selection process by discussing their child's interests, strengths, and aspirations. Conversations at home, together with guidance from staff, help students make informed decisions with confidence.

The Badano Program reflects our school's commitment to supporting students academically, personally, and vocationally, ensuring every young person is equipped to explore opportunities, make informed choices, and plan positively for their future.
