Year 9 Gala Day

Our next Year 9 Gala Day will be held on Tuesday 4th November (Week 5, Term 4) at the South Pine Sporting Complex.  This day will provide an opportunity for all students in Year 9 to participate in a day of sport, based on participation with peers. It is a fun day of social sport with their friends whilst playing against the other high schools in our districts.

Sports on offer to the students are mixed beach volleyball, basketball, netball, 7 a side soccer, mixed touch and ultimate disk.

Students were sent an email on Monday this week to nominate for the event. Nominations close of Monday afternoon next week (27/10/25). Following this, permission forms will be distributed via Q-Parents to students who have signed up.

If students opt to stay at school on this day, their classes are running as normal.  For further information about the day please visit the Sports Hall staffroom.

From Queensland to the World Stage

Congratulations to Year 10 student Brody McLeod, who has achieved outstanding success in futsal this year.

Brody represented Met North as goalkeeper at the Australian Youth Futsal Championships in Western Australia, where the team won bronze. His exceptional performance earned him selection for the U15/16 Queensland Merit Team, which will compete in Cairns later this year.

In addition to this achievement, Brody also represented Queensland North Coast at the National Schools Futsal Championships, where he excelled as a court player. His consistent skill and determination have now earned him an invitation to represent Australia at the Costa Blanca Futsal Tournament in Spain in July next year.

Brody’s success is a testament to his dedication, resilience, and passion for sport, as well as the strength of The Gap State High School’s programs that encourage students to pursue excellence both on and off the field.

Outstanding Achievement in Mountain Biking and Triathlon!

Congratulations to Year 7 student, Lucas Aarekol, on his incredible sporting success this month!

Lucas represented The Gap State High School at the AusCycling State Cross Country Mountain Bike Championships in Mackay, where he claimed 1st place in both the Cross Country Short Course (XCC) and Cross Country Olympic (XCO) events.

He then competed at the All Schools Triathlon Regional Selection on the Sunshine Coast, finishing 7th overall and 1st in the Met North division, earning qualification for the State Championships in Hervey Bay in February 2026.

Well done, Lucas, on your outstanding achievements and commitment to excellence across multiple disciplines. We are so proud of your dedication and sporting spirit!

Triathlon and Aquathlon Regional Team selections

Nominations Now Open https://www.triathlon.org.au/qld/allschoolstriathlon/.

There is no nomination process through Met North or Districts and therefore no paperwork is required to be completed or to gain Principal Approvals.  Met North use an external event (All Schools) to select our teams.  Athletes need to nominate their 2026 schools when registering through the website.

This is our only selection event.

The All Schools Triathlon + Aquathlon is the official and only Metropolitan North Selection Event for the State Championships, Term 1 2026.

NEW in 2026!

For the first time, Met North will select 6 athletes per gender, per category (Junior, Intermediate & Senior) to compete in the Aquathlon event. Met North will be selecting 10 in the Youth (Primary Aquathlon) as per previous years.

Important: Aquathlon athletes are selected separately to Triathlon.

• Athletes can only be selected in one discipline – not both.
