PEAK

Leanne Mundt Year 9 PEAK Teacher

In Term 3 the Year 9 PEAK students volunteered at The Gap Uniting Church Early Learning Centre. On four Mondays, our students visited the Kindy class to observe, and then design and teach engaging activities to a whole class of kids! They made button snakes and origami puppies, engineered towers, read books and coloured creatively. It was a huge success!

On our first day there, Xavier V was strongly encouraged to consider a career in the sector and invited back to participate in work experience. Aurora J and Wolfgang F learned a lot about engaging young children. Harry  was so playful, he was like a magnet with the young children, while Isaac organised our students and the Kindy kids like a pro!

Our students shared that:

"It helped me open up a little more and taught me how to act around little kids."

"The kindy visits (were) both interactive and fun while also learning and growing as a person."

"I was happy to do my things with the kids and succeed in it which I did."

"Having that chance in PEAK was good because I wouldn't get to do Kindy work    otherwise."

Without doubt, our students developed a whole new skillset that will be beneficial in all aspects of their school life and well beyond!

A big shout out to the parents of these students for their support of the program and Year 9 HOY, Ms Donovan, for her assistance throughout the term.
