National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week is an annual observance held from 27 May to 3 June that provides a focal point for all Australians to learn about, share, and celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and achievements.

In Library classes this week, Ms Counihan read Finding Our Heart by Thomas Mayo and illustrated by Blak Douglas.

The classes discussed Australia's Indigenous history, the impact of colonization, and the importance of listening to First Nations voices for a shared, reconciled future.

The book teaches that the nation's heart lives within the stories, songs, dances, and voices of First Nations people.

We have an ever growing selection of books written by First Nations authors and illustrators in the library that families are welcome to come and borrow with their child if they are interested.

See the photo gallery below for some of the books available.
