Royal Flying Doctor's Service Fundraiser

On Friday the 9th of May, the Year 11 Leadership Team organised a fundraiser for the Royal Flying Doctor’s Service. It was a free dress day and a BBQ was run at lunch time. Students in the Year 11 VM class also ran game stalls on the day. The day was a great success and we raised a total of $1,717.53!

This is a cause that is supported by the College each year. The Year 11 students going on the Central Australia tour at the end of this term will visit the Royal Flying Doctor’s Service base in Alice Springs. It is a really great cause and something the school is proud to fundraise for.

Elevate Education

On Wednesday, during a mentor class, all Year 11 students partook in an Elevate session, a program created to help students learn study techniques and to get the most out of their study time. The leaders of this program talked about making the most out of study time and taught us about what to do and what not do. They discussed past students’ mistakes and outlined how to not repeat bad studying behaviours. We learnt different ways to go about studying, such as creating timetables and study groups with other people, using a group to maximise studying. The presenters talked about how to reduce procrastination and different tools to go about helping students make the most out of when they study. The program allowed for exposure to new methods of studying and time to reflect on the ways students were already studying. It also allowed for students to begin to work on how and when they can implement these new techniques into their day to day lives. The Year 11s look forward to trialling these new ideas and getting the best results out of studying.

Cross Country

Last Tuesday Norwood ran our annual House Cross Country. The school had a massive turnout this year and it was great to see so many people get around the event. This year Dyson Heppell came down to run with Harrison in Year 7. It was great to see Dyson running the course with Harrison, and he helped Harrison secure a victory for his age group. Overall whether you ran or walked the course this year it was a great event, and I wish all the best to everyone who will be moving on to Division Cross Country later this year.

Year 11 Careers Excursion

On Thursday the 15th the whole Year 11 cohort was provided the opportunity to explore career pathways. We enjoyed talking to the different universities and exploring the courses available, including apprenticeship options, ADF, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria. In our discussions we were able to ask questions regarding our aspirations, where they also helped provide guidance on our goals and ideas. There were yummy food trucks and opportunities to collect free things! The potato spirals were the BEST, particularly the chicken salt!

After leaving we enjoyed a delicious BBQ at Deakin University, where we got to sit down with friends and enjoy some sausages in bread with a juice box. Roaming Deakin on a tour opened our eyes to all the cool facilities and learning that we may experience. It was cool seeing the nursing stations, as well as the early childhood and media rooms. Watching students in the robotic lab was awesome and made us excited for the potential opportunities post Year 12!

Shout to the bus drivers that also drove us around all day, they had great music choices!

Year 12 Staff vs. Student Netball

On Tuesday 20th, Norwood had their fourth Teacher vs Student event of the year, this one was netball. It was so fun to see so many teachers and students get involved and try their best on the court.

The students rotated through four different teams for each quarter. The game was highly competitive as the teachers had never lost in netball and the students were determined to break their streak. The students fought it out until the very end of the game. The final score was 9-8 with the teachers taking home the win.

Hopefully the students can win it back in our next teacher student event of soccer!
