Year 11 VCE VM Students Combine Numeracy, Teamwork and Fun at Lunchtime Stalls
Our Year 11 VCE Vocational Major students recently brought their learning to life through a creative and engaging lunchtime event. As part of their Numeracy and WRS classes, students worked in teams to design and operate a series of fundraising stalls that applied key concepts from their studies.
The task was linked to their investigation of probability, particularly how games of chance are often designed to favour the organiser. Each group trialled their game in advance, calculated the experimental probability of winning, and displayed this information to raise awareness about the real-world applications of chance and uncertainty.
This hands-on project gave students the opportunity to plan, test, evaluate, and present their work in a practical setting. Although it was a school-based practice task, students approached it with enthusiasm and maturity, stepping up to run engaging stalls and manage the logistics of the event with professionalism.
These kinds of applied learning opportunities are vital to the VCE VM program, helping students develop confidence, collaboration, and real-world numeracy skills.
A big thank you to Alicia and Julie for their invaluable support throughout the unit. Congratulations to the students for their teamwork, creativity, and initiative. We’d also like to thank all the students who supported the event by coming along and playing the games; your participation helped make it a great success!
