Junior School Principal Report

GPA Reports

The release of GPA reports is a timely reminder for students to think about their strengths and weaknesses. Please spend some time looking through the report with your student, celebrating the success and looking towards the areas for improvement.

Our teams back at school will be doing the same and will be praising those with high GPAs, and those with great growth. They will also be working very closely with students who are seen to be at risk.

Sports News

A big congratulations to both our 7/8 Girls AFL and 7/8 Boys Netball teams who both went through to the next round undefeated! Thanks also to Tom and Archer for umpiring the AFL.

When we moved the Cross Country to term 2 we were worried that the weather might not be as nice, but boy were we wrong. It was one of the best autumn days you could ask for and perfect for our runners to perform their best. Congrats to all of our winners on the day.

iFly - High Achievers Program

During the exciting iFly excursion, students had the opportunity to explore how STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) plays a crucial role in the real world. Through hands-on experiences in the indoor skydiving wind tunnel, they learned about the nature of fluids and the forces they exert on objects, while applying algebraic thinking to understand proportional relationships. Students also used decimal numbers, scientific notation, and unit conversions to perform calculations, graphed and interpreted data from their flights, and explored concepts of variability, uncertainty, and error in measurements.

We hope those that went enjoyed themselves and took the most out of the opportunity as I know Mr Given did!

Acceptable Use of Technology

At Norwood Secondary College (NSC) we are committed to building a culture of respect and responsibility. We show this in the way we use technology and interact online.

We provide a filtered internet service to block inappropriate content. Full protection from inappropriate content cannot be guaranteed, however, we have processes to report and act on inappropriate content.

It has come to our attention that some students have installed a VPN or Virtual Private Network software which allows them to access blocked content online. This behaviour is in breach of the Digital Technologies Acceptable Use Agreement. Breaches of this policy by students can result in a number of consequences which will depend on the severity of the breach and the context of the situation.  This includes:

  • removal of internet access privileges

  • removal of printing privileges

  • other consequences as outlined in the school’s Student Wellbeing and Engagement and Bullying Prevention policies.

As parents and carers, we would appreciate your support in having conversations with your child about their technology use so that we can prevent, respond, and learn from issues or incidents that arise. If your child has installed VPN software on their device, please assist them in removing it to ensure the safe and appropriate use of technology.
