Hillsmeade staff have been having a closer look at our resource usage to better understand where our waste is. We have identified water and paper use as high waste areas and we are working on ways to reduce this by encouraging students to bring reusable drink bottles and reducing our printing, or printing double sided where possible.
In your homes this is something you could identify by tracking usage. For energy you can try documenting the amount of lights or devices being on at one time and seeing if there is a way you can reduce this. Many devices switched in standby mode still draw power - switching them off at the wall can reduce this, and save you money.

Waste Free Wednesdays
On Wednesdays at Hillsmeade we encourage wrapper free lunchboxes. Instead of packaged items please try to bring reusable containers instead. Wrappers will be counted and the class with the lowest wrappers will win the Golden Bin Trophy! The class who wins the trophy the most throughout the year will win a prize at the end of the year.
When buying items at the supermarket buying in bulk is usually cheaper and saves on plastic packaging.
