Our Learning – Weeks 8&9

English

*During our English Daily Review, we will be revising key English skills so that we can remember and apply them automatically in our reading and writing.

*Practise our typing skills to develop our accuracy and speed.

*Learn to identify common homophones and show understanding of how their meaning and spellings differ.

 *Plan a persuasive text using persuasive devices to make opinions stronger and paragraph structure.

*Use high modality words to make persuasive writing stronger.

*Learn to revise and edit a persuasive text with the use of ARMS and CUPS resources.

*Publish a persuasive writing piece in different ways.  

*Learn to identify and understand how -ed verb sentence starters (dependent clauses) add detail and variety to our writing.

 

 

Maths

*During our Maths Daily Review, we will be revising mathematical concepts learnt.

*Investigate and learn to understand that a decimal is less than one.

*Learn to represent decimals as money.

*Choose appropriate units and tools to measure length, mass, capacity and temperature.

*Estimate, measure and compare lengths using appropriate tools.

*Learn to convert between millimetres, centimetres and metres.

*Estimate, measure and compare the mass of objects using grams and kilograms.

*Learn toconvert between kilograms and grams and compare masses.

 

 

SEL

*Explore how emotional responses can be stronger or weaker and identify words that can describe the strength or intensity of different emotions.  

*Describe the sorts of things that people can get angry about and practise ways to calm down and stay in control when they feel angry.  

 

 

Inquiry

During Inquiry this term, students will work in groups to research a topic of their choice.

*Learn how to justify decisions with evidence and values. 

*To use thinking strategies to continue projects.

*Learn to evaluate their work using shared criteria and rules so they can identify strengths and areas for improvement 

 

Events and Reminders

School hats - please ensure that your child brings their Hillsmeade hat to school. During Terms 1 and 4, students are required to wear their hat while outside. If they do not have one, they will be required to play under shade sails or the wellbeing room during recess and lunch play.

Drink bottles - please remind your child to bring a drink bottle to school daily so that they have easy access during class learning time.

 

Family Fun Night - Monday, 23rd March - 3:30-5.15pm.

SRC Dress up Day - Friday, 27th March.

 

Homework

Reading: Please continue to encourage your child to read every night. Ask them to record the title of the book and the number of minutes read in their diary.

Students are required to bring their diaries to school so that teachers can check them on the day specified.
