Year 6 Update

Welcome to Term 3!

Welcome back to what promises to be another exciting and busy term in Year 6! We hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable break and is feeling refreshed for the weeks ahead. This term, students will continue to challenge themselves across all learning areas while participating in a range of engaging experiences, including our Parliament Process incursion as part of our Inquiry unit. With many opportunities for collaboration, leadership and learning, we look forward to seeing every student continue to grow in confidence, resilience and independence throughout the term. Thank you for your ongoing support- we're excited for another fantastic term together!

Parliament Process Incursion

As part of our Inquiry unit, Year 6 students will be participating in the Parliament Process incursion during Week 3. This engaging, hands-on experience will help students deepen their understanding of how Australia's parliamentary system works through interactive activities and role-play. If you have not yet done so, please ensure payment is made by the due date so your child can participate in this valuable learning experience. Thank you for your support.

Year 6 Camp Update

All spots for the Year 6 camp have now been allocated. If your child has missed out on attending the Year 6 camp, we encourage you to email the office and be put on the waiting list. If camp positions become available, they will be offered in the order that students are positioned on the waiting list. 

Learning snapshot

We're looking forward to another exciting term of learning in Year 6! Here's a snapshot of what students will be exploring over the coming weeks:

• English: Students are studying the novel How to Bee by Bren MacDibble, exploring themes of resilience, family and sustainability while developing their comprehension and analytical thinking. In writing, our grammar focus is on embedded clauses, learning how they add detail and sophistication to sentences.
• Mathematics: Students will strengthen their understanding of subtraction strategies, applying efficient methods to solve increasingly complex problems and explain their mathematical thinking.
• Inquiry: As we begin our Civics and Citizenship unit, students will be introduced to the Australian system of government, learning about democracy, the roles of parliament and how laws are made. This learning will be enriched through our Parliament Process incursion in Week 3.

• Respectful Relationships: Students will explore gender norms and stereotypes, examining how assumptions and expectations can influence individuals and communities. Through discussion and reflection, students will develop a deeper understanding of inclusion, respect and equality.
