Year 2 Update

Week 1 of Learning in Year 2, Term 3
We would like to welcome everyone back for an exciting Term 3 that includes swimming lessons and an excursion to Lego Land!
During our first week, students enthusiastically engaged in a range of learning experiences across the curriculum.
In Phonics, students explored the suffixes -er and -est, learning how they change the meaning of base words when making comparisons. They practised reading and spelling words containing these suffixes and applied important spelling rules, including the 1-1-1 doubling rule and the drop the e rule, to accurately spell new words.
In Text Study, students began learning about information texts. They identified the key features and text elements commonly found in informational writing and practised recognising facts within a text. Students investigated information about animals, recording facts and sorting them into categories based on what the facts told us.
In Mathematics, students commenced their learning about subtraction using the count-back strategy. They practised counting backwards from various starting points, using number lines to support their thinking and explain their problem-solving processes.
This term in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), students across the school will be participating in our Hillsmeade Kindness Campaign, with a focus on understanding what kindness looks like and how we can show kindness to others every day. As part of our learning, students were introduced to the Kindness Campaign and began exploring what kindness means and why it is important. Students discussed examples of kind actions and reflected on ways they can demonstrate kindness at school, in the classroom and on the playground.
We are proud of the positive start students have made to the term and look forward to continuing our learning journey together.
A big congratulations to our Heroes:
