Year 1 Highlight

CERES Excursion
A few weeks ago, the Year Ones travelled to Brunswick to visit CERES Community Environment Park. We were continuing our learning about recycling and composting on our journey to becoming “Waste Warriors”. While at CERES, we participated in three fun activities.
We went on a nature walk along Merri Creek to investigate the creek and the habitats around it. It was interesting to learn how stormwater drains work and what we can do to stop rubbish from getting into the waterways.
We got to get messy and try to create our own paper by reusing old paper. The old paper was shredded and turned into “pulp” with water. We got to use special tools called a “sifter” and a “frame” to gather the paper pulp and turn it into a new piece of paper. Our new paper was a bit soggy after being in the water so we brought it back to school to let it dry. Hopefully we can use it soon!
Finally, we got to explore worm farms and compost gardens. We played Garden Bingo and searched for mini beasts and plant materials with our team. We also got to hold a wiggly worm! They tickled our hands a lot as they wiggled and danced in our palms.
We had such a fun day and hope we can go back to CERES one day!
