5/6 CLASSROOM

Our Grade 5/6 students have had a fantastic fortnight of learning and should be proud of all they have achieved. They have worked hard across all areas of their learning, enthusiastically participated in a range of engaging activities, and consistently demonstrated our school expectations with pride. It has been wonderful to see their effort, resilience, and positive attitude shine throughout the past two weeks. 

This week, we were delighted to welcome Mrs. Popplestone (Mrs. P) to our classroom as our Pre-Service Teacher for the next five weeks. She has already made a wonderful start, showing great enthusiasm, confidence, and a genuine passion for teaching. The students have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Mrs. P and have loved having her in the classroom. We are looking forward to working alongside Mrs. P and watching her continue to grow throughout her placement. 

English  

English: In English, students have begun writing the body paragraphs for their information texts on Poland. Our current focus is on the people and culture of Poland. Students have been researching the topic, taking notes, and using these notes to write well-structured, informative paragraphs. 

SpellEx: In SpellEx, students have been learning about rabbit words—words that contain a double consonant in the middle, such as rabbit and summer. We have also been exploring syllables and how breaking words into syllables can help us identify when a consonant needs to be doubled. 

Maths 

We finished our Location and Transformation unit by creating name reflections using symmetry. Students applied their understanding of lines of symmetry to design some amazing pieces of artwork. It was wonderful to see their creativity and mathematical thinking come together in their final designs! 

Religion 

In Religion, students created identity maps to explore what makes them unique and special. They reflected on their interests, strengths, values, family, friendships, and the qualities that make them who they are. Students also identified the different communities they belong to, including their family, school, sporting clubs, cultural groups, and other important parts of their lives. This activity encouraged them to celebrate their individuality while recognising that everyone has a unique place within their communities.
