F/1/2 CLASSROOM

We have had another busy and exciting few weeks in the F/1/2 classroom! It has been wonderful to see students continuing to grow in confidence, independence and enthusiasm for their learning. I am incredibly proud of the effort students are putting into their learning and the kindness and encouragement they continue to show one another each day.

On Monday, our class enjoyed a special Teddy Bear Picnic. Students loved bringing their favourite teddy bears to school and spending fruit break sharing stories together. Our Foundation students also enjoyed singing songs and playing games with their furry friends. The day was filled with smiles, imagination and wonderful opportunities to celebrate reading and writing in a fun and meaningful way. It was lovely to see the excitement and engagement from all students throughout the day.

Literacy

Literacy has been a busy and exciting area of learning over the past fortnight. Our Foundation students have almost learned all of their letters and sounds, with only a

handful remaining. It has been incredible to watch the growth in their confidence as they apply this knowledge to read and spell simple words and sentences independently.

Our Year 1 students have been extending their phonics knowledge through the introduction of new digraphs and split digraphs. It has been wonderful to see students beginning to recognise these spelling patterns and confidently apply them in both their reading and writing.

Year 2 students have continued strengthening their comprehension by making inferences from texts while also developing their understanding of grammar and spelling patterns. Students are becoming more confident in explaining their thinking and justifying their answers using evidence from the text.

In Mathematics, our Foundation students have continued building their number knowledge by reading, writing, and representing numbers to 20. Students have also been exploring collections of objects and developing their understanding of one more and one less, helping to build confidence with early number concepts.

Year 1 students have been developing a range of addition and subtraction strategies using number stories, ten frames, and hands-on materials. They have also been learning to represent their thinking using equations and explain the different strategies they use to solve problems.

Year 2 students have been investigating measurement by comparing the mass of objects using balance scales and informal units. They have also been exploring capacity by estimating, measuring, and comparing how much different containers can hold.

Maths Groups This term, we have introduced Mathematics groups every second Wednesday. During this time, students work in smaller groups across year levels, allowing time to provide targeted support, intervention and extension to best meet each student's learning needs.

In Religion, students have been learning about the Bible and exploring how it is a special collection of stories that teaches Christians about love, kindness, and caring for others. Students have enjoyed discussing how these messages can be applied in their own lives.

I continue to be incredibly proud of the effort all students are putting into their learning and the positive way they support and encourage one another in the classroom. It has been wonderful to see students consistently demonstrating our whole school expectations of Care for Self, Care for Others, Care for Learning, and Care for the Environment each day.

Reminders

· Readers: Please remember to return reader folders every Monday morning so books can be checked and updated for the week. If your child requires physical readers at home, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

· Tricky Words: Tricky word sheets will begin coming home next Monday with readers. These are high-frequency words that students are learning to recognise automatically. A few minutes of practice each week will make a big difference to their reading confidence.

· Sport: Sport will continue every Tuesday and will now be held on every second Wednesday (even weeks). Students are welcome to wear their sports uniform on these days.
