Science

The Grade 3-6 students worked hard this week in science.

This week's lesson focused on class expectations, routines and attitudes. The students spent time identifying how they best focus on class and who can support them to achieve their best. We also focused on developing our ‘Have a go’ and ‘Trying our best’ attitudes through working together to complete some experiments. They were able to develop this attitude and experienced that sometimes experiments do not work out, which is ok. During the lesson, we also revised our knowledge of ‘States of Matter’ in preparation for our coming lessons.

For the next fortnight, students will be focusing on changing states of matter from liquids to solids through freezing and solidification. They will make predictions and observe class demonstrations to support this.

Focus vocabulary for this fortnight:

Freezing: The process of changing the temperature of a liquid or solid to 0 degrees Celsius or below.

Melting Point: The temperature at which a solid starts to change into a liquid.

Solidify: Changing something’s state from a liquid into a solid.
