Be Ahead of The Game

Recently PRC students undertook the “Be Ahead of the Game” program, where they learned about the widesweeping prevalence of gambling in society, where it was present (in ads, video games and sports) and how it affected everyday Australians. Mohammed ran three sessions, related to gambling and the importance of saving money for important life needs. Students analysed the actual likelihood of winning the lottery, compared to other rare events (such as being struck by lightning or being killed by a shark). This showed how unlikely wins would be, putting in perspective how the odds are always against you as the customer. As well as being a timely reminder of the risks gambling presents, these sessions also gave our students valuable real-world examples of chance and probability for their Numeracy studies.
