Thriving in Year Three

Little Sprouts and Big Data
In Science this week, students are growing bean plants to observe life cycles and biological changes over time. They are tracking germination and plant development firsthand. We are linking this science exploration directly into our literacy blocks. In reading and writing, students are studying the structure and features of explanation texts. They are using their personal observations of the bean life cycle to read explanation texts with greater understanding and to write their own detailed explanations, learning how to sequentially describe processes using cause-and-effect language.
Year 3 students have also been developing their data collection skills in Mathematics through practical investigations. They have been planning data collection methods and recording real-world observations, including tallying traffic counts of passing cars outside the school.
