Terrific Times in Year Two

This fortnight in Writing, we have been learning about poetry with a focus on couplet poems. Students have been practising using rhyming words and creating pairs of lines that relate to a chosen topic. They have enjoyed experimenting with language and sharing their creative ideas with their classmates. 

In Mathematics, we have been strengthening our understanding of the split strategy for both addition and subtraction. When adding, students have been partitioning the tens and ones in both numbers to solve problems. For subtraction, they have been splitting the second number into tens and ones and subtracting each part separately. 

For example: 

34 − 18 =

34 - 10 = 24

24 - 8 = 16

34 - 18 = 16

You can continue practising this at home with your child by giving them two or three digit sums to solve.
