Year 6 Highlight

This term, the Year 6 students have been studying the novel ‘Us Mob Walawurru’ - a fantastic Australian novel following Ruby, a young Luritja girl growing up on a cattle station in Central Australia in the 1960s. As Ruby navigates two very different worlds, her story explores family, culture, identity, and belonging in a way that really sparked some wonderful conversations in our classroom!
The novel's setting and themes tied in perfectly with our Australian History unit in DBL, bringing the past to life in a way that textbooks simply can't. Seeing history through Ruby's eyes gave students a deeply personal and meaningful perspective on First Nations experiences, and it was wonderful to watch these connections unfold naturally across both subjects.
Alongside our novel study, students have been keeping busy and engaged with literature discussions, reading fluency practice, cursive handwriting, spelling, grammar, typing and artistic responses!
