Term 4 Sports

By Katie Cook

Term 4 was an exciting and highly successful term for Warrandyte High School in interschool sports. Our students shone in the regional finals, with Year 8 teams competing strongly in Hockey, Volleyball, and Athletics regional finals.

In addition, all Year 7 and 8 students had the opportunity to take part in a Gala Day. This special event introduced them to a variety of sports they might not usually experience, encouraging new skills, teamwork, and a love for physical activity.

Eastern Regional Athletics

Congratulations to Arabella Bailey, Grace Celentane, Ashley Denny, Oli Oldfield, and Sierra West for their outstanding representation of Warrandyte High School at the Eastern Regional Track and Field Finals.

Competing against exceptionally strong opposition, these students displayed remarkable resilience, determination, and sportsmanship. Regardless of the outcomes, they consistently gave their absolute best and upheld the values of our school community.

A special commendation is extended to Oli Oldfield, who demonstrated extraordinary perseverance by securing second place in the 400m event despite suffering a quad injury mid-race—a truly inspirational effort. It was heartening to witness the students’ unwavering encouragement of one another and the pride they exhibited in representing Warrandyte High School. Congratulations to all involved on their commendable achievements.

Eastern Regional Year 8 Hockey

On Friday, 18th November, our Year 8 mixed hockey team delivered a thrilling performance at the Eastern Metro Regional Finals, facing tough competition from Mount Waverley and Balwyn High School. Despite challenging weather conditions, with relentless rain throughout the day, the team showcased remarkable defensive skills, keeping the games highly competitive. A special mention goes to James Litchfield for his exceptional goalkeeping, which was instrumental in maintaining the close scorelines. Although the team didn’t secure victory, every player demonstrated outstanding perseverance, dedication, and teamwork. Congratulations to the Year 8 team for their efforts and for representing Warrandyte High School with pride.

Year 7 & 8 Gala Day

The recent Gala Sports Day was a resounding success for our Year 7 and 8 students, showcasing Warrandyte High School's talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship in every event.

Warrandyte entered an impressive seven teams in the handball competition, with three teams emerging as grand final champions - The year 8 Boys, Year 8 Girls (with an outstanding performance with an average winning margin of 27 points and a dominant 34-point victory in the grand final!) and the Year 7 Girls.

Every team gave their all, encouraging one another and demonstrating the perfect balance of competitiveness and respect. The Year 7 and 8 Frisbee teams also had an incredible day. For many, it was their first competitive experience in the sport, but their rapid improvement, teamwork, and enthusiasm were truly inspiring.
