Art & Technology

Art and Technology Show

This year we welcomed back our annual Art and Technology show with a superb turnout of families, locals and artists. Award winning Eltham based artist Chris White who previously taught at WHS was our guest of honour, officially opening  the show. It was wonderful to hear him sharing with the audience the value and importance of the Arts, not only in terms of culture, creativity and problem solving  but also in regard to health and well-being.  We were all very proud of the fabulous work from students across the year levels  and the many different art forms and technology projects that were exhibited.

Monash University

On the 18th of September , students from Warrandyte High School participated in an enriching excursion to the Monash Tech School, where they engaged in cutting-edge technological activities. The program provided hands-on experiences in four key areas: robotics, drone flying, programming, and room-scale mixed reality scenarios.

In the robotics session, students learned to program robots to perform various tasks, fostering both problem-solving and teamwork skills. This activity emphasized the practical applications of robotics in industries and everyday life.

Banyule Nullimbik Tech School

Early in November, Ms. Bloom organised for Tech Savvy to visit the Nullimbik Banyule Tech School that is a part of Melbourne Polytechnic. It was a great opportunity for our students to experience the wonderful facilities and educational staff there. Carien and Mareea guided us through three different learning experiences in the various tech studios. They taught us how to code Microcontrollers to light up, write text, make sound and to and communicate with each other. Students used Dobots, learning how to control the robotic arm, manually and through code, to make them complete a range of delicate tasks. They completed the day flying Drones and trying to develop skills that would allow us to run them through an obstacle course.

En Plein Air’ painting in Warrandyte

This term in the Art Box trail of discovery and the Arts Collective elective, students had the fabulous opportunity to spend a day on the Yarra in Warrandyte.  They were able to soak up the ambient natural atmosphere while expanding on their painting skills they had previously been developing in classes. It was a delight to see our wonderful students so engaged in painting outdoors, connecting with locals in the community as they passed by and enjoying the amazing cafes and their local surrounds.

Forty Five Downstairs SMALL exhibition -December 3 - 21

Throughout the term many of our students in the 9/10 electives were busy working on  smaller scale artworks that they could potentially exhibit in SMALL run bu Forty Five Downstairs in flinders Lane Melbourne.  This exciting exhibition is a community sourced fundraiser initiative that gives younger artists a fantastic opportunity to exhibit in one of Melbourne’s most well-known not for profit spaces. It also gives art collectors an opportunity to purchase artworks at a flat rate of $150. If you have never been to see SMALL maybe now is the time to go as you will see a few works from Charlotte Dibbs in year 9.

Food Technology

Students have worked hard this year making a range of delicious foods to meet the parameters of Designs Briefs.

From traditional foods from a country to food for a celebration, canapes for the Arts Festival, to just designing a delicious pizza or muffin.

All students showed dedication to producing food to the best of their ability.
