During Week 1 of Term 4, students completed our Start Up program- revisiting our rights and responsibilities, E-Safety, Zones of Regulation, Marrung program and Respectful Relationships.
Marrung:
Students revisited our school value of 'Care', looking at how we can care for our school and our Country include caring about the plants, animals and birds who share the school and all of Victoria and Australia with us. We listened to the storybook, ‘Finding our Heart’ which is about including the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history of Australia and acknowledging the people and places of our country. We then made a 'chatterbox' to be added to a display in our CLaS group. In each section, students wrote or draw indigenous places, people, words (or quotes), and animals (including birds and fish). The chatterboxes contribute to a larger Marrung project as part of our launch of the RAP.
Zones of Regulation:
Students revisited our four zones and different emotions associated with each zone. We then discussed different tools and strategies we can use when we are feeling emotions outside of the Green Zone. Some of these include going for a walk, breathing activities, having a snack, talking to a friend. We discussed which ones students would find the most beneficial and helpful when we are feeling different emotions.
Respectful Relationships:
We discussed that we all have many differences which make us unique and special, even thought we have these differences, we are of equal value. We brainstormed different activities we enjoyed doing and who shared a similar favourite activity and who had a different one. It was wonderful to see students be respectful and inclusive of everyone's ideas and opinions.
E-safety:
For E-safety, we looked at how not everything we see online is truthful and how to check if information we see online is real.
Holiday recap:
During Literacy we enjoyed sharing about our school holidays and what we got up to during the break. It sounds like Foundation and Year 1 and 2 students had a very busy break!
Numeracy:
Students learnt how to play 109 during Numeracy this week. This game involves students rolling a dice and trying to beat their partner to get to 109, students have to utilise their place value knowledge of tens and ones. It's a minimal equipment game which students can play at home with their families. Will you beat your child?!
Thank you for reading and we are looking forward to a wonderful term together.
Kind regards,
Grade Foundation, 1 and 2 Teachers
