Culture Day

Earlier this term, Modbury School P-6 came alive with vibrant colours, new flavours, and joyful sounds as we celebrated our annual Cultural Day. The event was a wonderful opportunity for students, staff, and families to embrace the diverse backgrounds that enrich our school community.
The day commenced with an assembly which was hosted by our student leaders, where we learned about the diverse cultures and languages at Modbury, and recognised the importance of learning about each other's cultures and backgrounds.
One of the highlights was the much-anticipated fashion parade, where students proudly wore outfits representing their cultures. The assembly also featured musical performances with children joining together to sing songs in both Kaurna and Italian languages, reflecting our commitment to honouring First Nations heritage while celebrating the multiculturalism within our community.
Throughout the day, students shared tasting platters featuring delicious foods from around the world. These platters allowed students to experience global cuisines first-hand, sparking conversations about different cultures and traditions. They also engaged in classroom activities which were designed to deepen students’ understanding of cultures beyond their own.
Cultural Day was not only a celebration but also a valuable learning experience, encouraging respect, understanding and curiosity. Thank you to everyone—students, families, and staff—who contributed to making the day such a memorable event.
