From the Leadership Team

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we come to the end of another busy and rewarding term, the Leadership Team would like to take a moment to acknowledge and celebrate the many positives across our school community.
We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm, resilience and commitment to their learning. It has been wonderful to see the growth in confidence, the way students are supporting one another, and the pride they are taking in their work and in being part of our school.
Our staff continue to go above and beyond to create engaging, supportive and inclusive learning environments. Their dedication, care and professionalism are evident every day, and we thank them for the energy and passion they bring to our school.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to our families and wider community. Your ongoing support, involvement and connection to the school play a vital role in making Modbury School P–6 such a strong and welcoming place for everyone.
This term has been filled with many highlights, and what stands out most is the strong sense of community spirit that continues to grow across our site. It is this shared commitment to working together that makes our school such a special place.
As previously communicated earlier this term via EdSmart, I will be on long service leave from Week 11 to the end of Week 2, Term 2, enjoying an overseas holiday to celebrate a special birthday this year. I will be returning at the beginning of Term 2, Week 3. Jade Mattin, our Deputy Principal, will be in the Acting Principal role during this time.
We wish everyone a safe, restful and enjoyable break, and we look forward to another great term ahead.
Warm regards,
The Leadership Team
Uniform Policy
As we head into the cooler months, please review our Modbury School P-6 Uniform Policy, which was recently ratified at our Governing Council meeting. Please note we have recently surveyed our community about investigating a school zip-up jacket. Please complete the survey, as posted on Class Dojo, to give your opinion on this.
Modbury Movie Night Magic
What a wonderful night we had at our recent Modbury Movie Night! Families and friends gathered for an evening of laughter and fun as we enjoyed the animated classic Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, with students arriving wrapped in oodies, pyjamas, and ugg boots, armed with their blankets, beanbags, and cushions—ready to settle in for the ultimate movie experience.
The hall was alive with the hum of excitement, and the smiles on students’ faces were priceless. It was fabulous to see our school community come together in such a relaxed way.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the evening a success—from organising the event to setting up the cosy space, and to all those who attended and supported this special night. It’s events like these that make Modbury School such a special place to belong.
We can’t wait to do it all again next time!
Splashing Success – Swimming Lessons for Reception to Year 5
During Week 9, our Reception to Year 5 students have made a splash in their swimming lessons! This annual event is always a highlight of the school calendar, providing a wonderful opportunity for students to build their water confidence, learn essential water safety skills, and develop swimming techniques—all while having fun.
The program also plays an important role in linking classroom learning with real-life skills, reinforcing key areas of the Health and Physical Education curriculum, such as personal safety and movement skills. By learning about safe behaviours around water, students are empowered to make safer choices, both in and out of the water.
We’re incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and progress we’ve seen throughout the program. Watching students gain confidence and skill with each session has been a joy for both staff and families alike.
Thank you to our dedicated instructors and supporting staff who ensured the sessions ran smoothly—and to our students for their effort and positive attitude.
Professional Development: CPR & First Aid Training
This term, some Modbury School P-6 staff participated in CPR and First Aid training as part of our ongoing commitment to student safety and wellbeing. The training provided staff with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills to respond confidently in basic and emergency situations.
Facilities work over the holidays
Over the upcoming school holidays, we’re excited to share that several outdoor facility improvements will be taking place across our school and preschool.
You may notice contractors on site installing brand-new outdoor seating around our mosaic tables—these will look absolutely fabulous and provide welcoming spaces for students to gather and connect. In addition, all timber areas across the school and preschool will be reoiled to help maintain and protect our outdoor environments. Please note that some surfaces may be slightly sticky while they dry, so we kindly ask that these areas be avoided during the holiday period.
We are also commencing the groundwork for our much-anticipated shade structures, with footings and posts being installed over the break for both the slide area and our new outdoor classroom space. We anticipate the shade structures will be completed mid-term—how exciting!
We look forward to students returning to refreshed and improved outdoor spaces to enjoy.
2026 Book Week theme
The 2026 Children’s Book Week theme is ‘Symphony of Stories’.
Our talented illustrator is the fabulous Briony Stewart, award-winning author-illustrator of ‘Gymnastica Fantastica’ and other children’s books. Just wait until you meet all the wild characters she’s created.
‘I decided to try and show what stepping into a symphony of stories might be like. A huge colourful collection of characters bursting out of a book representing their different stories with weird and wonderful instruments.’ – Briony Stewart
