Connect Year 6

Key Dates for the Term

          

Welcome Back to Term 3!

Welcome back everyone! We hope our families have enjoyed a wonderful break and had the opportunity to relax, recharge and spend time together.

We would also like to let our Grade 6 families know about an upcoming graduation photo opportunity. On Monday 15th September at 12:00pm, students will have their Grade 6 Graduation photo taken.

There is no charge to families for this photo. We encourage all Grade 6 students to be present and ready to capture this important milestone as they celebrate their final year of primary school.

Following the Grade 6 Graduation photo, we will also be taking our whole school photo. We ask that all students are present and ready to participate in this special school memory.

We look forward to a wonderful term ahead and thank families for your continued support.

 

The Next Fortnight of Learning

Mathematics

In Mathematics, our Grade 6 students have been building their confidence and accuracy when working with decimals. In our Number lessons, students are developing their understanding of place value, comparing and ordering decimals, and applying the four operations to solve real-world problems. They are also learning strategies to estimate and check the reasonableness of their answers, helping them become more efficient and flexible mathematicians.

In our Applied Mathematics sessions, students are exploring angles and their importance in everyday life. They are identifying, measuring and drawing a range of angles using protractors, while investigating angles within triangles, quadrilaterals and around a point. Students are applying their knowledge to solve practical problems and explain the mathematical thinking behind their solutions.

It has been wonderful to see students challenge themselves, persist with more complex tasks and develop confidence in explaining the strategies they use. We encourage students to continue practising these important skills at home whenever possible.

 

Literacy

This term, our Grade 6 students have been exploring the Industrial Revolution and discovering how this remarkable period changed the world forever. Students have been learning about the incredible inventions, new technologies and factories that transformed the way people lived and worked during the 1700s and 1800s.

Throughout the unit, students have investigated the causes of the Industrial Revolution and examined both its positive and negative impacts. They have explored how inventions such as the steam engine led to advances in transport, manufacturing and communication, helping towns grow into large cities and creating new opportunities for people around the world.

At the same time, students have considered the challenges that came with rapid industrialisation, including poor working conditions, child labour, overcrowded cities and environmental pollution. By examining different perspectives, students are developing their critical thinking skills and gaining a deeper understanding of how historical events continue to influence our lives today.

We have been impressed by the curiosity and enthusiasm shown by our students as they have participated in discussions, analysed historical sources and completed research tasks. This fascinating unit has encouraged students to reflect on how innovation shapes society and how the decisions made in the past continue to impact the modern world.

 

What else is happening:

Memory Books

As outlined in the recent Sentral notice, Grade 6 students will begin creating a memory book this semester to celebrate their primary school years. Please make sure that we all have one by early next week.

 

Division Netball

On Tuesday the 21st our netball team that won the grandfinal went and competed at Division. It was so exciting and all students competing did an amazing job. We ended up drawing with another team and came second due to points scored. We couldn't be prouder of the team's effort. Well done Skye!

Kitchen Garden

The grade sixes have the privlidge of having Kitchen Garden this term. They have been working hard in the kitchen and in the garden.
