Connect: Year 1

Hello families and friends of year 1,
We hope you had a refreshing break surrounded by friends and family. We are so excited for all the learning planned in term 3, we know the kids are going to love it.
Important events:
| Friday 24th July | INSPIRE |
| Friday 31st July | Assembly |
| Week 5 | Swimming |
Our Learning:
Literacy:
In Little Learners, we are learning some new phonemes. We are focusing on 'oi' (coin, oink), 'oy' (toy), 'oo' (cook), 'u' (push), and 'oul' (could).
In Writing, we are using Where the Forest Meets the Sea by Jeannie Baker as our focus text. Through this beautiful picture book, students are expanding their vocabulary and developing their sentence writing skills. We are learning about the four different types of sentences: statements, questions, commands, and exclamations and practising how to use each one correctly.
This text also provides wonderful cross-curricular learning opportunities. From a Science perspective, students are exploring rainforest habitats, animals, and living things.
Maths:
In Mathematics, we have been consolidating our learning from Term 2 by revising and adding to our addition and subtraction strategies. Students have been applying these skills to solve a range of number problems with increasing confidence. We will soon begin our next unit on Patterns, where students will explore, create, and extend repeating and growing patterns.
Wellbeing:
In Wellbeing, we have been learning the importance of active listening and showing respect when others are speaking. We have also explored the feeling of being proud and identified our personal strengths, recognising that everyone has unique qualities that help them learn and contribute to our classroom.
