The start of Term 3 has been absolutely wonderful, beginning with an exciting Grade 5 historical adventure to Sovereign Hill. We travelled to Ballarat for a fun-filled day of learning and exploration. Our first stop was a confectionery-making demonstration, where students watched hard candy being made and even enjoyed tasting some fresh from the batch! We then took part in a candle-dipping workshop, learning about colour mixing before creating our very own candles. As we wandered through the township, it truly felt like stepping back in time. We visited the old newspaper office, blacksmith, bank, woodworker, butcher, bakery, theatre and many other fascinating places. Panning for gold was a highlight for many students, along with the spectacular gold pouring demonstration and an unforgettable visit to the gold mine. Be sure to check out some photos from our amazing adventure!
Over the next few weeks in Literacy, students will be exploring the British colonisation of Australia. We will learn about penal colonies and investigate the economic, social and political impacts that colonisation has had on the Australia we know today.
In Numeracy, we are continuing to strengthen our fluency with multiplication facts, focusing on the 7, 8 and 9 times tables through daily practice. Students will also be learning about decimals, including how they represent parts of numbers and their connection to fractions. In addition, we will be exploring the features and properties of 2D shapes.
In Science, we are delving into the fascinating world of plant biology. Students will investigate the abiotic features that support plant growth, discover what makes a plant invasive, and explore how plants have adapted over time to thrive in their environments.
This term in Wellbeing, students will be exploring stress management through the Rights, Resilience and Respectful Relationships program. They will learn practical strategies to recognise signs of stress, understand their emotions, and develop healthy ways to manage challenges both at school and in everyday life. These lessons aim to build resilience and support students in making positive, respectful choices.
