Poorneet Year 7

Greetings everyone,
We are currently in the season of Poorneet, the Tadpole Season here in Naarm. Poorneet is also the name of our Year 7 house, and the tadpole reflects the beginning of our young people's journey at MITS. Like tadpoles growing and developing, our Year 7 students continue to learn, build confidence, and find their place within our community.
With the days becoming longer and warmer, and a few blustery spring winds, our students have enjoyed making the most of the beautiful weather. Weekends and afternoons have seen plenty of outdoor activities, with visits to Percy White Reserve, where students enjoyed the open parklands and the bay, as well as trips to Black Rock, where we spent hours swimming and enjoying time together. The following weekend, students explored the Geelong waterfront promenade, making wonderful memories with their peers and staff.
Basketball has been a highlight this term, with many of our mob joining the local basketball community. Training sessions take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, with games played on Saturdays. The excitement is always clear when students return, eager to share stories about their best shots, strong defence, and teamwork on the court. After games, they enjoy some well-earned downtime, relaxing with friends and reflecting on the day.
While sport and recreation are important, homework remains a priority. We are grateful to our dedicated volunteers who continue to support our students during homework sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays. We would also like to extend a warm welcome to Robert, who has recently joined our volunteer community and is already making a positive contribution to our students' learning.
The first three weeks of term have been busy, energetic, and full of opportunities. It has been wonderful to see students settling into their boarding routines, building independence, and engaging with the many activities on offer. A particular highlight was attending the Gala, where we were fortunate to enjoy another beautiful warm day together.
We are incredibly proud of how our young people are embracing their MITS journey and supporting one another along the way. Thank you to all our families for your ongoing partnership and support.
Until next time, families, take care and stay well.
Warm regards,
The Poorneet Boarding Staff
