Year 5/6

We have moved into the second half of the term and we are moving into different units of work in 5/6.  So far this term has given out students many opportunities to build there leadership skills and be exposed to a variety of excursions and events.

English

In English we have been looking at narrative writing and our students have planned, drafted and published a creative narrative of their own.  We have now moved onto onto persuasive unit of writing. In this unit, students have been formulating contentions and arguments and supporting these with evidence to convince the reader. We have been engaging with a range of different mentor texts to support our students in this topic.

Maths

In Maths we have been looking at ordering and comparing decimals, rounding whole numbers and decimals all the way to the nearest thousandth. We have moved into financial maths where we have been looking at budgeting and calculating percentage discounts of 50%, 25% and 10%. Next we are planning a holiday to a country in the Asia Pacific region which links to our Humanities unit. Students will be given a budget and checklist to complete to learn more about their chosen country.

Humanities

In Humanities, students are learning some research skills and looking at the differences in Australia's economy compared with our Asia- Pacific neighbours. They will research how and what each country trades, and what liveability is like in these countries compared to Australia.

Reminders

Next week our Year 5 students begin NAPLAN testing starting on Wednesday morning.
