Literacy
In Literacy, students have been learning about different letters and the sounds that they represent. Students have explored these sounds so far: a, i, m, s, t, n, o, p, c, g, h, and b. Students have been practicing building words using these sounds and reading words. We have been exploring different words that start with these sounds, too, along with decorating letters that match these words.
Students have been exploring who reads books and why we read books. Students have had the opportunity to explore different books in our library, explaining why they would choose to read that particular book.
We have enjoyed talking about books, and making predictions when we read. Students are using the text clues (title and pictures) to guess what they think is going to happen in the book, then continue to talk about what is happening in the book. We have begun to make text-to-self connections.
Students have been practicing adding extra details to their pictures and using lots of different colours to show their understanding of different books. We have also been practicing writing our names.
Maths
In Maths, students have been learning about counting. We have explored numbers 1-10, and strategies like counting one to one. Students have been encouraged to point to or move each object as they count.
We have also been exploring the days of the week. Students have been practicing the order of the days and which days they attend school and which days are weekends.
Wellbeing
We have been exploring being ready to learn and what that looks like. Students have explored different strategies to support them to be ready to learn if they are not ready to learn. We created a ready to learn plan in our classrooms.
Students have explored what having a growth mindset looks like and created their Yetis from the book The Yeti's Roar. Students identified something they wanted to improve on, such as riding their bikes, writing their letters or drawing.
Humanities
In Humanities, we have been learning about Geography. We are starting by looking at where we live. Students drew their houses and talked about who lives in their houses. Check out some of our pictures below!
