Celebrating Our Journey Together
Dear Families,
Recently, St Joseph's was invited by Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) to feature in a media article recognising schools that have demonstrated outstanding improvement in their NAPLAN results. It was a proud moment for our school and a wonderful opportunity to share the story behind our success.
While we are delighted with these results, they represent so much more than numbers. They tell the story of a community working together with a shared commitment to helping every child grow, learn and thrive. They reflect the dedication of our staff, the perseverance of our students, and the incredible partnership we share with our families.
Over the past few years, we have focused on strengthening teaching and learning across every classroom through the implementation of the MACS Vision for Instruction and Vision for Engagement. This work has helped us create consistent, engaging and evidence-informed learning experiences where every child is supported to achieve their personal best. Our teachers have embraced ongoing professional learning, worked collaboratively to analyse student progress, and continually refined their practice to ensure teaching responds to the needs of every learner.
In literacy, our structured approach to teaching reading in the early years has provided students with strong foundations that continue to support their learning as they move through the school. In numeracy, we have strengthened the way we use assessment, feedback and responsive teaching so that every student is challenged, supported and encouraged to succeed.
Just as importantly, we know that children learn best when they feel safe, connected and valued. Our Positive Behaviour Learning (PBL) framework continues to strengthen our school culture by creating consistent expectations and nurturing respectful relationships across the school. Alongside this, our Team Around the Child approach brings staff together each week to carefully discuss individual student needs, celebrate successes and plan targeted support where required. This ensures every child is truly known and receives the right support at the right time.
Although we celebrate these outstanding results, they are not our finish line—they are simply another milestone on our journey. Our vision has never been about chasing test scores. It has always been about creating a school where every child feels a genuine sense of belonging, discovers their strengths, develops confidence and resilience, and leaves St Joseph's with a lifelong love of learning.
One of the things I am most proud of is the culture we have built together. I want St Joseph's to be a place where people genuinely enjoy coming each day—a school where staff feel trusted, supported and valued, where families feel welcomed as true partners in learning, and where children arrive each morning knowing they belong. I believe this positive culture is one of our greatest strengths. Our exceptionally high staff retention reflects the strong relationships and shared purpose within our community, providing the consistency that allows students to flourish.
Leading St Joseph's is a privilege that I never take for granted. Every day I have the opportunity to work alongside passionate educators, wonderful students and supportive families who genuinely care about one another. There is something truly special about our school. You can feel it in the warmth of the greetings each morning, the smiles in our classrooms, the care shown on the playground and the excitement that comes from learning something new.
I would like to sincerely thank our staff for their unwavering commitment, our students for their enthusiasm and determination, and our families for the trust and partnership you place in us each day. These achievements belong to all of us.
As we look ahead, we remain committed to continuous improvement—not simply to achieve strong academic results, but to ensure every child is known, supported, challenged and inspired to become the very best version of themselves.
Thank you for being part of the St Joseph's community. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together, and I am even more excited about what lies ahead.
Warm regards,
Julie McDougall

Dear parents and carers,
Please see attached a letter from the Victorian Catholic Education Authority outlining the work that is currently underway to secure a funding commitment for capital investment in Victorian Catholic schools. This would support ongoing improvements to our schools and provision of new schools.
Please take the time to read the letter.
