Year 5 Highlight

Last Thursday, our Year 5 students enjoyed an exciting day of learning and adventure at Werribee Zoo! As part of their Discovery Based Learning (DBL) unit on habitats and organisms, students had the opportunity to explore a variety of ecosystems and observe animals from around the world in environments designed to closely resemble their natural habitats. From majestic lions roaming the savannah to curious meerkats and towering giraffes, students were fascinated by the incredible diversity of life and the unique adaptations that help each species survive.
Throughout the day, students made meaningful connections between their classroom learning and the real world, investigating how living things interact with one another and their habitats. They asked thoughtful questions, shared interesting discoveries with their peers and deepened their understanding of the important role that habitats play in supporting organisms. One memorable part of the lesson was the saying, "Eyes to the front, born to hunt; eyes to the side, born to hide," which explained how the placement of an animal's eyes can indicate whether it is a predator or prey.
The excursion was filled with excitement, curiosity and memorable experiences, and we are incredibly proud of the way our Year 5 students represented our school. We look forward to continuing our learning as we explore the wonderful world of habitats and organisms in the classroom.
