Wellbeing at STJ Mernda - PAT Wellbeing Survey

In Week 1 of Term 3, students in Years 1–6 completed the ACER Social-Emotional Wellbeing Survey. This is a short, confidential survey in which students respond to statements about how they feel, how they get along with others, and the strengths they draw on when things are difficult.

The purpose is not to assess or grade individual children. Results are reported to us as whole-cohort data, which lets us see patterns across year levels, compare our school with hundreds of others nationally, and make informed decisions about where to direct our wellbeing programs and support.

We are very pleased to share some of what our students told us:

  • Students feel safe at school. Agreement was above the national average at every single year level.
  • Relationships with teachers are a genuine strength; almost all students across the school reported getting along well with their teacher, well above the national figure.
  • Students report strong relationships at home, with agreement above the national average.
  • Students take care of their shared spaces, and they look out for fairness; most said they try to make sure everyone gets a fair chance, even when it means they might miss out themselves.
  • Students are optimistic. More than nine in ten believe they will have a good life when they grow up.

These results reflect the values we work on together every day: Respect Others, Do Your Best, and Help Others Succeed.

The data also points us to areas we want to strengthen, particularly in supporting our older students with managing worry, building confidence after setbacks, and resolving conflict well. Our staff are working through the results now and we will share more about our focus areas later this term.
