Dear Parents and Students,
The year has begun with wonderful momentum, and it’s been genuinely uplifting to watch our new students find their footing.
Moving to a different school is a bold step, and it often takes a little while to adjust to unfamiliar routines and expectations. At JMSS, we place a strong emphasis on creating an inclusive environment where every student feels welcomed and supported from day one. If any students are still finding the transition difficult, I encourage them, or their families, to reach out to their mentor for guidance.
Starting at a new school, or even returning for a new academic year, can come with its own set of hurdles. New processes, new responsibilities, new ways of working. To help with this, I want to highlight a valuable resource: JMSS Pro Tips. This site was developed by our staff to help students thrive academically. The Strategies for Success section is especially worth exploring, offering practical advice on everything from healthy sleep routines to effective study habits.
As with all schools, JMSS operates under a range of policies that guide our practices and decision-making. I encourage all families to take some time to review the policies relevant to them, which can be found at https://jmss.vic.edu.au/community/policies/. I would like to draw particular attention to the inclusion of non-logoed PE pants and shorts in our Dress Code - they must be plain navy blue and, for OHS reasons, must be pocketless or have zip pockets. If you have thoughts or suggestions about any of these policies, you’re welcome to share them by emailing policy@jmss.vic.edu.au.
I’d also like to remind everyone about our wellbeing contact: wellbeing@jmss.vic.edu.au. This address connects you directly with the JMSS Wellbeing Team and is intended for matters relating to a student’s wellbeing outside the classroom. If your concern involves an immediate safety issue, please include the word URGENT in the subject line. For academic questions or support, please continue to contact the relevant subject teacher or the student’s mentor.
Thank you all for your ongoing effort and positivity. Let’s keep building on this strong start.

Many thanks,
