Bringing Language Learning to Life

The Languages Department is looking forward to an exciting and vibrant Term 3, with a range of opportunities for students to engage with languages and cultures both inside and beyond the classroom.

A highlight of the term will be the arrival of nine French exchange students, who will join Peninsula Grammar for six to eight weeks. Hosted by local families, these students will become part of our School community, providing authentic opportunities for cultural exchange and language learning. We are grateful to the families who have opened their homes and helped make this valuable experience possible.

We are also excited to celebrate Languages Week in Week 9. Students can look forward to a variety of cultural activities, including a French circus workshop for our Junior School students, Indonesian singing and dancing performances, and the return of the ever-popular crêpe and satay food vans. These experiences help bring language learning to life, allowing students to connect with language through authentic cultural experiences and fostering a greater appreciation of the diverse cultures represented within our community.

Several members of the Languages Department recently attended professional learning workshops led by renowned language educator Gianfranco Conti. His approach focuses on building students' confidence and fluency through highly structured, engaging, and evidence-informed teaching practices. The workshops provided valuable insights that will continue to shape our classroom practice and support students in developing stronger communication skills.

At Peninsula Grammar, we believe language learning is about much more than vocabulary and grammar. It develops curiosity, resilience, intercultural understanding, and the confidence to engage with the wider world. We look forward to another term of meaningful learning experiences and to celebrating our students' growth as globally minded learners.
