Spotlight on Learning
Jerusalem Community
Dear Families,
In Week 3, our students were excited to celebrate early with their Mums and special people at St Thomas the Apostle Primary’s annual Mother’s Day Breakfast on Friday. Students warmly welcomed those who were able to attend, beginning with gentle classroom activities before coming together for a special performance in our community space. Guests enjoyed a selection of treats prepared as a small thank you for the incredible mothers and special people who pour so much love into our children each day.
We loved sharing this beautiful morning with our community.
Photos from Week 3

Religious Education: We will continue examining the life of Mary and her relationship with Jesus.

Writing: We will be continuing our journey through Australia while reading the book "Are We There Yet?" by Alison Lester. It is a fictional recount about a families 3 month caravan trip around Australia. Students have had fascinating questions about the book. Many of them want to visit the places we have reading about. Some places include, The Great Australian Bight, Wave Rock, The Bungle Bungles and Uluru.
Reading: We will be learning the grapheme ur and ir making the sound /er/.

Mathematics: . In Maths, students are learning about partitioning. This means breaking a number into smaller parts to help understand it better. For example, the number 24 can be split into 20 and 4. This helps students with addition and subtraction.
You can help at home by asking your child to break numbers into parts.
For example:
You can also use everyday items like toys, fruit, or coins to practise. This makes learning fun and helps your child feel confident with numbers.

Integrated Curriculum: We are continuing our learning about mapping. Students will create a map showing the route from our classroom to the administration office. We are also developing our understanding of mapping language, including compass directions and positional terms.
Auslan: We are learning the signs for school subjects and refreshing what need to remember for Unit 3.

Social & Emotional Learning: We are learning about help seeking behaviours and how to be a helpful friend.

• Listen to your child read regularly and encourage them to use their decoding strategies when they come to an unfamiliar word.
• After reading, ask your child to retell what happened, share their favourite part, or explain how a character was feeling.
• Re reading familiar texts is a great way to build confidence, fluency and expression.
• Notice numbers in everyday places and ask questions like, “How many altogether?” or “How do you know?”
• A curious question to ask this week could be: What is something you learned that made you laugh?

Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.
Can we please ask for a pair of socks and underwear to be placed in the front zip pocket of your child's school bag in case of a toileting accident.
Enjoy your weekend,
The Jerusalem Team
