Spotlight on Learning
Bethany Community
Dear Families,
This week, our Year 5 students enjoyed participating in collaborative games and activities led by the Year 9 students at St Peter's College. The sessions encouraged teamwork, communication, and creativity, and the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Thank you to all the mothers, carers, and special people who attended our Mother’s Day/Special Persons celebration. It was wonderful to share this special occasion together and see the children proudly participate in the festivities. We wish all our families a happy and relaxing Mother’s Day weekend.

Religious Education:
In Religious Education, students explored the Assumption of Mary and what it teaches Catholics about faith and hope. They discussed how Mary is a model of hope and trust in God for believers today
English:
In English, students have been building their reading, writing, and communication skills through our class novel, Dirrarn. They have practised reading fluently, expanding vocabulary, writing direct speech, and creating engaging sentences using conjunctions and appositives. Students have also planned, written, and edited introductions for factual recounts while improving their handwriting and typing skills.
Mathematics:
In Mathematics, students have been learning how to convert improper fractions into mixed numerals by using division. They have been practising how to divide the numerator by the denominator and represent their answers as mixed numerals. Students are building confidence in recognising and working with different forms of fractions.
Integrated Curriculum:
In Geography, students have been learning to compare countries by examining similarities and differences in environments, cultures, populations, and landmarks. They have been developing their inquiry and research skills while using maps, data, and information to better understand how places around the world are connected.
Auslan:
In Auslan, students have been developing their signing skills by practising everyday vocabulary, facial expressions, and clear hand movements. They have been building confidence in communicating simple ideas and understanding how non-manual features support meaning in Auslan.
Social & Emotional Learning:
In Social and Emotional Learning, students have been learning to recognise different types of problems and identify who can help solve them. They explored when problems can be solved independently, when peer support may help, and when it is important to seek help from a trusted adult.

Please ensure that you are labelling your child's belongings.
Enjoy your weekend,
The Bethany Team
